Save our Magnetic Island Camp

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has decreed that he will close the Magnetic Island Active Recreation Centre, our camp, on 20 December 2012. We are people who believe that the reasons given are not valid and that the camp should remain open.

The Mount Isa High School is one of many schools throughout the region and beyond whose kids look forward to and save for their time on Maggie experience. They feel so strongly about the closure they have led the way in the fight for what is their right! Visit their page Save the Magnetic Island Camp on Facebook.
These kids and others need your Help!

Over 30 school and other groups already booked will now be denied economically viable access to Magnetic island for essential educational, personal development and recreational experiences.

Four of the seven camps throughout Queensland are going to be or have been closed. Our nearest Active Recreation Camps for 2013 are located at; Lake Tinaroo, just North of Cairns; Currimundi an hour north of Brisvegas, and Tallebudgerra on the Gold Coast.

Mr Newman has decreed that as of the 20 December 2012 the gates of the Magnetic Island Camp will be locked! The camp has been deemed to be not financially viable. Information obtained from various government websites and parliamentary records suggests that this decision may not have been based on valid figures or some essential factors may not have been considered. Confirmation is being sought.

Action is currently being taken by individuals and various community bodies & groups to save our camp, to keep it open. Information is being gathered, petitions are being prepared, lobbying is underway. Things are happening...

But what can you do in the meantime?

Go to the following site, Local Members of Parliament and as soon as possible let the MPs who are supposed to represent us know what you think and want to happen.

Keep up to date with The Magnetic Times the island's online online newspaper, and please, express your views and opinions.

Tell your friends get them to join us.

And please, share your own personal experiences on the Save Magnetic Island Camp Facebook Page

We care the government doesn't...

Well done Mount Isa High!
